DailyBlog : Happiness Without Sadness

** Special May announcement, March saw the publication of the very first book in a six novella dystopian series I’ve been working on since early 2015. “Dark World : The Surface Girl” only $0.99 on kindle, or FREE if you’re a part of Kindle Unlimited! Check it out!

For the sake of blogging and self-exploration and contemplation, I answer a question a day off of this list.

Today’s question : Can there be happiness without sadness?  Pleasure without pain?  Peace without war?

In my opinion, it’s not so much about whether or not these things exist, but instead it’s about how you are able to perceive, and appreciate them. When you have not experienced many negative situations and emotions, you are certainly capable of feeling happiness and pleasure but I don’t think you can have the same appreciation for them as a person who has gone through a lot of pain, disappointment and loneliness. I can’t say that I think ANY adult is incapable of appreciating the positive thigns in life because there’s no way to escape growing up and feeling none of the negatives. I think it’s important to remember that what we see on the outside is just the tip of the iceberg for most people, some people’s pain is very apparent while others may be very good at hiding it.

Ultimately though, I believe in the yin-yang, that pain can EXIST without pleasure and pleasure can EXIST without pain, but I don’t think we as human beings can understand or appreciate the good or the bad without realizing that they are simply different sides of the same spectrum, they are all unavoidable and a deep rooted part of human existence.
