Whilst investigating the death of a local telemarketer, a glowery waiter called Dillon McDermit uncovers a legend about a supernaturally-cursed, smooth ballpoint pen circulating throughout Scottsdale. As soon as anyone uses the ballpoint pen, he or she has exactly 109 days left to live.

The doomed few appear to be ordinary people during day to day life, but when photographed, they look glowy. A marked person feels like a slimy chihuahua to touch.

Dillon gets hold of the ballpoint pen, refusing to believe the superstition. A collage of images flash into his mind: a squirrely rat balancing on a loud telemarketer, an old newspaper headline about a falling down the stairs accident, a hooded spider ranting about groin and a drinking well located in a hot as balls place.

When Dillon notices his ear have chihuahua-like properties, he realises that the curse of the smooth ballpoint pen is true and calls in his unrequited love, a sex shop worker called Shayna Clemens, to help.

Shayna examines the ballpoint pen and willingly submits herself to the curse. She finds that the same visions flash before his eyes. She finds the squirrely rat balancing on a loud telemarketer particularly chilling. She joins the queue for a supernatural death.

Dillon and Shayna pursue a quest to uncover the meaning of the visions, starting with a search for the hooded spider. Will they be able to stop the curse before their time is up?
