“Wait, did I miss some days of the countdown?”
No, you did not! I skipped four whole days of the countdown and I’m not even a little bit sorry. My birthday was on Saturday, Christmas Eve was on Sunday, Christmas Day was on Monday, and yesterday was my day to recover from the Holidays, clean, catch up on laundry, etc. Even though I’m not religious at all, I consider Christmas to be an opportunity to spend some quality time with friends and family. I absolutely love writing and I love that I have wonderful opportunities to share things with readers via this blog, but sometimes life happens and I have to “unplug” and live in the moment without the interruption of technology. I love social media, but especially during the Holidays I don’t want to stare at my phone instead of talking to the people right in front of me. If you don’t like it, oh well! 🙂
“Do I have to have read the core novels of the Dark World Series in order to read this short story?”
“Amethyst” is a companion story to my dystopian series and it is told from the point of view of a character that appears in the second novel, The Lockdown. Although reading the core novels (at least the first two) prior to reading Amethyst should give the reader a certain type of unique insight into this particular futuristic world before they learn new things from Amethyst, it was my goal while writing “Amethyst” to make it informational enough so that someone who is not familiar with the core novels could read it and not feel lost or confused as to what is happening. Hopefully I’ve managed to succeed in that goal, but we’ll see … in two days!
