This chapter introduces you all to one of my favorite characters, Paxton Griffon. He may not be handsome, but he has an amazing heart and far more courage than he realizes right now. He’s the type of person who carries the weight of others on his shoulders because he takes personal responsibly for them through his desire to protect them, but he also doesn’t want to burden others with his own troubles, so that only escalates his daily stressors.
This character means a lot to me because some of the inspiration for him came from a close friend of mine. He always puts his own life and struggles on the back burner in order to help others, but where does that leave him? As selfless and noble as it is to be there for others, self-care is also important. I try to help my friend learn that on a daily basis, but he’s pretty stubborn!
I have great plans for this character, though. He may not enter the story with a bang and he may not be wearing a red cape or a Superhero outfit, but he’ll rise up and show his strength when it’s time. Sometimes the people with the most strength are also the people with the most compassion.
