Beechwood Author’s Notes – Chapter 2 – Zulia’s Body

The first chapter introduces the twins, Eloise “Ellie” Atkins, both “experiments” at 21-22 years old. They are originally introduces as extremely close to the point of being inseparable, but it doesn’t take long to poke a few holes in that idealism. Eden is a “six” (due to the ACCE experiments, she has some enhanced abilities, but that’s not any type of spoiler… you don’t know her well yet!) while Ellie is not.

I can easily say that these will be two of my favorite characters in this series, I’m super interested in how they will unfold as we explore their complicated dynamic. If this was a TV show (I can’t say movie because this story is far too complex for a two hour or less screen time), I imagine that they would ideally be portrayed by India Eisley.

I’m a pantser, not a planner. I have had this story swimming around in my head for a few years, but I don’t know all of its details nor do I know how it’s going to end. When I’m writing, I feel like I’m just sitting back and letting the characters tell their stories. I’m almost passive in the process which sounds so odd, but it’s the best way that I can explain it.

In this chapter you’ll also meet the scientist who is assigned to monitor, test, and control them; Greer Jeffries. He’s only been assigned to them for the last eight years, so who was assigned to them before that? We don’t know as of yet, nor do we know why they were transferred to a new scientist… We do know that his intentions toward the girls are less than professional…

There will be so many layers to these two, join me in unwrapping them!
